Overview:
Primary Purpose:
  • To prep and paint steel storage tanks, vessels, and structures in industrial
settings.
  • These products include, but are not limited to, elevated tanks, flat bottom tanks, pressure vessels,
spheres, structural steel, and other miscellaneous fabricated steel products.
  • All work is to be performed in accordance with approved procedures that are furnished by CB&I or others.
  • The Painter performs the painting activities by hand or with the assistance of industrial
painting equipment.
Responsibilities:
TYPICAL DUTIES
  • Unload paint materials and tools from trucks.
  • Perform basic and preventative maintenance functions on power equipment.
  • Operate electric and pneumatic power tools such as sanders, power brushes, drills and
  • mixers.
  • Use hand tools such as shovels, brooms, scrapers, hand brushes, paint rollers, paint
  • brushes, etc.
  • Hook-on or move material around the field site by hand or with the assistance of a
  • forklift or crane.
  • Blast structures to specifications with pneumatic blasting equipment.
  • Handling abrasive blast materials to fill sand pots and hoppers.
  • Inspect, set up, rig, use, and break down equipment such as aerial work platforms
  • (spider buggies), elevated work platforms, painter picks, booms, and staging.
  • Assemble and install rigging for containment systems.
  • Paint industrial structures to specifications with manual, pneumatic or airless painting
  • equipment.
  • Able to work in restricted, poor visibility areas in ASME approved respiratory
  • equipment.
Workers should be able to:
  • Access elevated work platforms and scaffolds through the use of ladders, stairways, or
  • other designated access ways.
  • Climb structures utilizing appropriate fall protection and available handholds and
  • footholds.
  • Work with precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Compare and see differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects.
  • Understand verbal instructions and written posted notices.
  • Comply with all written and verbally communicated safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform general labor on construction sites.
  • Work in confined spaces where respirators and fresh air equipment are utilized.
  • Maintain and use personal protective equipment.
  • Practice good housekeeping to maintain a clean, orderly and safe work area.
  • Perform a variety of duties which may often change.

Essential Qualifications and Education:
  • Minimum of 12 months documented field experience.
  • Compare and see differences in size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects.
  • Rate information using standards that can be measured or checked.
  • Calculate amounts of concrete required for each job.
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications and Education:
  • May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Works under immediate supervision.
  • Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.
  • Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
